Brooksville, Florida

Brooksville is a very pleasant town forty miles north of Tampa and seventy miles west of Orlando and fifteen miles east of the Gulf of Mexico.

Brooksville is in one of the prettiest parts of Florida with gently rolling hills and amid numerous lakes and rivers which offer year around recreation to residents and visitors.

Brooksville offers the small town atmosphere that lots of people desire today, but is close enough to the large metro areas and the attractions of Disney and Orlando, plus Busch Gardens and what they offer to be an easy commute from the town.

On the outskirts of Brooksville is the Withlacoochee State Forest which offers thousands of acres of recreational opportunities including fishing, hunting, and motorcycling.

The beautiful Withlacoochee River offers camping, canoeing, and fishing along with outstanding bird watching and wildlife.

This same area has the Withlacoochee State Trail which is a forty seven mile paved trail that begins in Trilby and ends in Hernando and winds through part of the state forest and along the Withlacoochee River and through the charming settlements of Nobleton and Istachatta and on through the city of Inverness. The trail offers bikers, roller blades, and joggers an opportunity to experience a quiet getaway and enjoy nature at its finest.

To the west of Brooksville is Weeki Wachee where springs empty millions of gallons of crystal clear water and you have the opportunity to watch mermaids play. These springs empty into the Weeki Wachee River that winds its way to the Gulf of Mexico. Along this river are some great restaurants that offer some of the bounty of the Gulf.

Downtown Brooksville is akin to taking a step back in time with the old brick storefronts and the stately county courthouse. Many businesses now inhabit the restored downtown where you will enjoy strolling along the tree shaded streets with the flowers growing in the brick planters and looking in the many shops and restaurants. One of the most visited stores in Brooksville is the famous Rogers Christmas House where you can find Christmas all year long. Another thing that brings residents and visitors together are the many festivals and shows that are staged downtown especially the weekly car show that shows off the area collector cars that range from antiques to professionally built street rods.
